L\u2019opera \u00e8 stata eseguita per Emergenza Origami, evento di beneficenza per il terremoto del Giappone nel 2011: una leggenda giapponese narra che dopo aver realizzato mille origami, un desiderio espresso si avveri. Cos\u00ec fece Sadako Sasaki, bambina ammalata di leucemia a causa delle radiazioni di Hiroshima, che per\u00f2 mor\u00ec prima di arrivare al millesimo origami. I suoi amici completarono la sua opera e ogni anno il 6 agosto a Seattle, dove c\u2019\u00e8 un monumento in suo onore, vengono realizzati migliaia di origami che vengono inviati ai bambini di Hiroshima. L\u2019opera ha una costruzione che ricorda l\u2019iconografia classica della Vergine sul globo: fiori, terra arata, covoni di grano, verdi cespugli sono il simbolo della rinascita sullo sfondo del Fujiama, simbolo di imminente e incontrollato pericolo.<\/p>\n

This piece was done for Emergenza Origami, a charitable event in response to the 2011 earthquake in Japan: according to a Japanese legend, upon creation of a thousand origami, one\u2019s expressed wish will come true. When Sadako Sasaki, a child ill with leukemia due to radiation released by the atomic bomb dropped over Hiroshima, died before arriving at her thousandth origami, her friends completed the remaining ones in her honor. In Seattle, where a monument to Sasaki stands, thousands of origami are made and sent to the children of Hiroshima each year on August 6. This image recalls the classic iconography of the Virgin on the globe: flowers, plowed earth, sheaves of wheat, and green bushes are the symbols of rebirth against the backdrop of Fujiama, symbol of imminent and uncontrolled danger.<\/p>\n
